Mary Slider Ideas please?? How to transfer from a web page so I can print a student's paper

Help tech folks out there!...One of my students saved her paper with much sweat equity as a web page, rather than for print. She has a text box that prints black from my computer at school...and when I tried to open it at home, I was unable to try to edit and paste into word. The three pictures she provided are to the left and the text box with the print then additional titles etc are squeezed in vertically to the side. Any ideas how we can rescue and print this paper? Do we have to go back to t… Continue

Greg Goins Mac vs. PC

I'm pleased to announce that Mr. Joseph Lee, the Illinois K-12 Apple Rep. will be our featured presenter at our opening Teacher Institute Day on Monday, August 17th. I had the chance to meet Joe at the Technology Conference at John A. Logan last spring and was amazed at all the innovative Apple features. I'm a life-long PC guy, but I have to admit that I've got my eye on a Mac Book Pro - the multi-media is just incredible. I knew I was hooked when I spent two hours in the Apple store at the St.… Continue

Greg Goins School Center Tip #2 - Sorting Newsletter Boxes

Another change is in how newsletter boxes are sorted. In the past, you could click on sort newsletter boxes and revise by placing numbers above text boxes and the page would refresh. With the revised SC Pro program, you need to drag and drop newsletter boxes from the current page to the sorted page box. To make items one, two, or three columns, click on the small white box in the bottom right hand corner of the blue text box and drag across to whatever column preference you desire. When you crea… Continue

Greg Goins School Center Tip - Add Border To Text

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I'm sure many of you will begin updating your school web pages. School Center has made some upgrades and a few of the editing features have been tweaked. One problem I have encountered is adding border around text. This is a common practice among print media to assure that text, more specifically "headlines" do not bump and run into one other. The old way to add a border was to simply use the styles feature. However, if that does not work try this: 1)… Continue

Mary Slider embedding Youtube videos - redo with instructions

Dear Lisa and all, I like to use Youtube and Teachertube ( for more controlled content). I have started embedding music video and lyrics to my website. These instructions from http://www.labnol.org/software/insert-youtube-video-in-powerpoint-presentations/5393/ .... If you plan to deliver a presentation without internet, take the following approach. 1. First download the YouTube video locally in either Windows Media or AVI format since PowerPoint doesn’t understand the default F… Continue

Susan Hood Think Ahead Conference

The Think Ahead Conference I attended in Springfiled on Thursday was very informative. It explained how students of the 21st need to be creative, mobile, multitasking, collaborative, and productive. Students need to be the pilots in the learning, not the passengers. I saw how to use the iPod touch as a tool to create 21st centruy students. I also learned how teachers need to become facilitors that communicate, collaborate, and learn along with the students. Overall, it was more interesting and i… Continue

Greg Goins Blues Hockey Photos With BlackBerry

Had the chance to attend my second hockey game ever on Saturday night in St. Louis and watched the Blues beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in an overtime shoot-out to keep their playoff hopes alive. I know nothing about hockey, but just wanted to add some pictures to show just how easy it is to take pictures with the BlackBerry Smart Phone. I simply took the pictures, emailed them to my school account, and then uploaded to the site. With today's technology, it's so easy to share photos and I en… Continue

Greg Goins Notes From Tech Showcase

For those of you unable to attend this year's technology showcase at John A. Logan, here are a few of the highlights from what I felt was an outstanding professional development and networking opportunity. Google: There are so many free Google features for teachers and classrooms and Google For Educators (www.google.com/educators) is really all you need to meet all your instructional needs. The site has sign-ups for free classroom posters and materials and also offers ideas for lesson pl… Continue

Terry Shelton Upcoming April 1 Worm

In case you have not heard, the world-wide computer industry is alerting us of a bad Internet worm coming on April 1; it is called Conficker.C and is supposed to be very hard to detect and clean. But the good news is BitDefender Labs has released a scanner that, they say, will detect and clean this worm. Go to BitDefender Labs and click on QuickScan or download the home version of the cleaning tool. Continue
